Hermosillo, Sonora

Today was a recovery day. Just relax, hang out around the hotel, and prepare for tomorrow's departure back home.

I had wanted to ride Hwy 16 from Hermosillo to Chihuahua on my way back home. Hwy 16 contains one section that is 240 miles of continuous curves as it makes it way across the Sierra Madres.

Being a gringo and "no habla español", I was not quite comfortable riding this particular road by myself. Asked Marco if he would ride the road with me and he agreed. By the time that we were ready to leave, we had 12 riders.

We had a slow departure time this morning but finally got on the road heading toward Basaseachi.

Saul Mendoza Hernandez
Ulises Mendoza Hernandez
Eduardo Carlos Covarrubias
Erick Macias
Yesica Gomez

Camera malfunctioned today so very limited pictures, mostly what I could beg, borrow, or steal.

After 80 miles or so we started entering the mountains and curves. Only 180 miles of continuous curves in today's ride and then we stopped for the night in Basaseachi.

Creel, Chihuahua to Copper Canyon to Chihuahua, Chihuahua

Leaving Creel we head south for a tour of Copper Canyon.

Copper Canyon (Spanish: Barrancas del Cobre) is a group of canyons consisting of six distinct canyons in the Sierra Madre Occidental in the southwestern part of the state of Chihuahua in northwestern Mexico. The overall canyon system is larger and portions are deeper than the Grand Canyon in Arizona. The canyons were formed by six rivers that drain the western side of the Sierra Tarahumara. All six rivers merge into the Rio Fuerte and empty into the Gulf of California. The walls of the canyon are a copper/green color, which is where the name originates.

Shortly after daylight broke, we started getting up and preparing for our departure. Most riders would be heading south to various parts of Mexico. I was heading east and back to the US.

By 11:15 I had arrived at the border. Less than 30 minutes later all paper work had been completed and I was once again riding in the USA.

Made a short day of today's ride. Reached Ft Stockton, TX and stopped for the night.
